Goodnight John McIlfatrick

Another character leaves us for the better life.

I met John McIlfatrick at Carrickfergus Baptist Church when we started to attend their services back in the early 90's. He was a lovely old fella with a razor sharp wit.

I remember him talking to my mum just before my family were due to take a trip down south one time. He asked where we were going, and when my mum said that we were going to somewhere in Southern Ireland he said something to the effect of "be careful not to be going into one of those bars" and then with a little glint in his eye "or at least, make sure no one sees you!" This was typical of this old gentleman.

I know he was not in best health for the last few years, and even though he's not here anymore i'm glad he's in a better place tonight. (see the last word of the statement in the paper below)

From this evening's Belfast Telegraph:

Died September 10, 2007, peacefully, at home, dearly-loved husband of Eleanor, father of Alan and Lynn, father-in-law of Sonja and Ian and dear grandfather to Ryan, Matthew and Elin. Family flowers only. Funeral arrangements later. Redeemed.

Bye John.
